Fixing a Broken Hatch Latch
With a hatch door opening and closing many times a day during travel, the latch that holds
the door open is essential. Often these latches break or the spring fails leaving you stuck
propping the door up or holding it open.
The latches are usually held on with two screws as seen here, also notice the failed spring so the latch does not close anymore.
Here is how I changed the broken latch with a new one.
There are normally two screws holding the latch on, mine were removed with a square head driver.
With the screws are removed, slowly pry the latch off with a flat head screwdriver. There will be
sealant behind the latch but it is usually pliable.
Now the latch is removed, clean all the old putty off the trailer wall around the latch mounting area.
Take the new Latch and do the reverse to install the new Latch. Before installing apply a small amount of caulking to seal
the back of the Latch. After the screws are tightened down apply a small bead of caulking around the latch and you are done.
